Samsung Galaxy S23+ Review: A solid phone with a few caveats

The Samsung Galaxy S23+ is the middle child of Samsung's 2023 flagship lineup, sitting between the more compact S23 and the larger and more feature-rich S23 Ultra. It's a very good phone, but it's also a bit of a mixed bag. Here's a look at the pros and cons of the S23+, as well as who should buy it.

Display

The S23+ has a 6.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It's a beautiful display, with sharp colors, deep blacks, and wide viewing angles. It's also very bright, making it easy to see in direct sunlight.

Camera

The S23+ has a triple-lens rear camera system with a 50MP main sensor, a 12MP ultrawide sensor, and a 10MP telephoto sensor with 3x optical zoom. The camera performance is very good overall, with sharp and detailed photos in most lighting conditions. The ultrawide sensor is also good, but the telephoto sensor is a bit disappointing, especially compared to the S23 Ultra.

Performance

The S23+ is powered by the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, which is the fastest mobile processor on the market. The phone's performance is excellent, and it can handle anything you throw at it, from gaming to multitasking.

Battery life

The S23+ has a 4,700mAh battery, which is slightly larger than the battery in the S22+. The battery life is very good, and you should easily be able to get through a full day of use on a single charge.

Pros:

  • Beautiful display
  • Very good camera performance
  • Excellent performance
  • Very good battery life
  • Long-term software support

Cons:

  • Telephoto camera is a bit disappointing
  • No microSD card slot
  • Pricey

Who should buy it?

The Samsung Galaxy S23+ is a good phone for anyone who wants a large Android flagship with a great display, good camera performance, excellent performance, and very good battery life. It's also a good choice for people who want long-term software support, as Samsung promises to provide four years of major Android updates and five years of security updates for the S23 series.

However, if you're looking for the best possible camera performance or you need a microSD card slot, then you may want to consider the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra instead. And if you're on a budget, then you may want to consider the Samsung Galaxy S23 or another more affordable Android phone.
